Welcome to Johnson City Youth Baseball & Softball. We are an organization of volunteers dedicated to teaching the children of Johnson City, New York skills in baseball and softball. The 2017 season is already being worked on by our new Board of Directors.
In 1939, Mr. Carl Stotz, an oil clerk, made good on a promise he’d made a year earlier to his nephews, who were too young to play organized baseball at the time. Mr. Stotz promised that he would find children a way to play baseball like the Major Leaguers of the day. After being turned down by 56 local businesses, Mr. Stotz convinced a lumber company, a dairy, and a pretzel maker to sponsor three teams for $30 each. The three team league would play on a field that was two-thirds the size of a standard baseball field and on June 6, 1939, the first Little League game was played at Park Point, in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.
Johnson City Little League has long been part of the tradition started by Mr. Stotz. Operating under a charter originally granted in 1952, we are proud to be affiliated with Little League Baseball. This year marks our 65th season of Johnson City Little League Baseball! For those of you trying to do the math in your head, Johnson City became affiliated with Little League baseball just 13 years after it started!
Little League Baseball Incorporated, is located in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, and is the largest organized youth sports program in the world. One of the many benefits of being affiliated with Little League Baseball is that at the end of the season, an all-star team representing Johnson City Little League will compete in the Little League Baseball Tournament, the largest youth sports tournament in the world. The tournament will end at the Little League World Series in Williamsport, with games televised on ESPN.
